Defined geometrically as well as supported by bicycle frames, this shelter creates an informal space for gathering, self-expression, and socialization of bike culture at
Cal Poly Pomona. The lip primarily intended for sitting/laying transitions into a wall composed of part blackboard and part recycled plywood, inviting students to express themselves visually on the effaceable as well as the more permanent portions of the structure. All of this happens under the shadow of the cantilever, comforting the users of this space from the sun as well as the occasional wind.

Users of this space are not confined to use the space in one way. The shelter also provides ample room for bikes, which can be locked all along the structural frame wrapping the entire structure. Due to it’s eccentric geometry, this space lends itself to be continuously reinvented, thereby retaining its popularity amongst the visitors.

Construction of the space is informed by the bicycle frames obtained and their geometries. While the general shape of the planes should not change dramatically, the supporting structure is going be dependent entirely on the availability of recycled bike frames and other complementary metal tubing. Due to the nature of the bicycle frame, however, this is of no concern as each frame can be disassembled into the composing triangles and, if needed, used for its tubing. In addition, chains are welded to the structure, allowing cyclists to carry only a padlock used to lock the chain around the bike.
